Jon Benjamin

Whatever the size of your organisation - whether you are just starting out, are looking to expand, or are simply looking for some external expertise - Jon brings 30 years of experience in legal practice, charity governance, fundraising, PR, communications and advocacy.

After practising law in the City, advising corporate and private clients on a wide variety of commercial matters, Jon moved into the not-for-profit sector, heading the Business Division at UJIA and raising funds from the business community.  As Chief Executive of British ORT, he increased donor income by 100% through innovative campaigns, including establishing a Patrons' programme for major donors. He was subsequently headhunted to return as Chief Operations Officer at World ORT, devising and implementing strategy for this global education and aid NGO, and managing the project and development teams.

In 2005, Jon became Chief Executive of the Board of Deputies of British Jews, providing professional leadership for a complex charitable institution.  As well as having responsibility for all aspects of running a dynamic and multifaceted organisation, Jon has represented the British Jewish community at the highest level, engaging with government, the media, key stakeholders and opinion formers.

As a consultant to the charity sector, Jon has advised charities and foundations ranging from those funding medical research to organisations supporting sick children, encouraging volunteering, animal welfare, education and interfaith work, both in the UK and abroad.

Media experience includes broadcasting on flagship news and current affairs programmes, including Radio 4's Today Programme, BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky News.  He has also been quoted extensively in print media in the UK and around the world, and contributed articles and commentary to renown publications such as the Times and New Statesman.

Jon has served on Government committees, as a 'critical friend' to the Charity Commission on new legislation, and as Chair of the Chief Executives' Forum for Jewish Charities, a board member of the World Council of Jewish Communal Service and a member of the Policy Research Advisory Group of the Institute for Jewish Policy Research. He is a member of the National Council for Voluntary Organisations' panel of expert consultants.

In a voluntary capacity, Jon has twice served as a school governor and is currently the Chairman of the Israel Guide Dog Centre (UK) and a trustee of the Sir Martin Gilbert Learning Centre.
